Remembrance Day 2018

- 100 years since the Armistice that ended the Great War -

Remembrance Day this year falls on a Sunday, so the commemorations at 11 a.m. will be held exactly 100 years after the Great War finally ended.

Locally - in addition to the 11.a.m. commemorations at the War Memorial - there will be a further ceremony in the evening.

Our Group Secretary Jenny Young has emailed  these details:

"On the evening of 11th November there will be a special event outside the Town Hall to mark the signing of the Armistice in 1918. It is not a long event, starting at 6.40 with a projection of 1225 cascading poppies onto the Town Hall, then a couple of readings, laying of wreaths for the ‘first & last’ soldiers to be killed and culminating with the lighting of a beacon at 7 pm in line with the  National Commemoration.

As Chair of the committee organising these events, could I make a plea for volunteers to help steward the event?..

There are so few people available at our end, and I will be doing one of the readings.

We shall also be planting 1225 poppy crosses, 1 for each known Bournemouth fallen.  This will be done at 4pm on the Saturday 10th November in the circular flower bed in front of the Town Hall if anyone would like to come and help us?"

If you are able to help with the stewarding - or the planting on the Saturday - just drop me a line via our contact box and I will pass the information on to Jenny.
