Do you know?...
This page is to post queries that arise during the course of investigating our various projects. If you can help with any details, please drop us a line...
Elaine Davies has sent me a link to the photo below, (which appears in Alwyn Ladell's flickr collection HERE along with lots of other fabulous Bournemouth views) You can clearly see the domed window which still survives in the building, now used by Denman's Electrical....

It's dated 1913, which raises an interesting point. Where was the location of the original Moordown Congregational Church pictured here in a photo from Michael Stead:

As that text reads 'Nursery Rd' it might be reasonable to assume it's at the location of the little 'independent' chapel, which still stands.
It just seems a much larger building and the adjacent houses look 'wrong'.....Unless the whole area was re-developed after 1906?....
Anyone have any more information on this 'first' Moordown Congregational Church?...
Edit: ...looking at maps from the period indicates that this earlier church was indeed at a different location.
Bright's 1893 Bournemouth map, which you can find a copy of HERE shows the 'Moordown Independent Chapel' some way down the hill of Nursey Rd, with the 'Peoples' Hall' occupying the site of todays' 'Life Centre' chapel.
So it does seem that, as part of the housing development of Nursey Rd just beofre the First World War, the church was knocked down, and a replacement built on the site that is now Denmans Electrical....
Thanks to Steve Mott for his observations on this.....

- Does anyone have any photos - or even details - of the location of the 'School House' in Evelyn Rd?..
